THE ROLE OF CONTINUING EDUCATION IN THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL STAFF

Abstract

Continuing professional development (CPD) plays a key role in improving the skills and professional adaptation of healthcare professionals. Its main goal is to ensure continuous updating of knowledge and skills in accordance with modern professional standards, technologies and evidence-based medicine.CPD includes participation in the process of formal, non-formal and informal education in the field of healthcare.Ukraine has a system of continuous professional development, which is regulated by legal documents and obliges doctors to select a certain number of CPD points through courses, seminars, conferences and other educational events.The purpose of the study was to determine the role and importance of continuous professional development in increasing the level of competence of medical professionals, and accordingly, improving the quality of medical services and introducing modern technologies into the healthcare system.This article presents the results of a comparative analysis of which continuous professional development measures are preferred by physicians. The leading positions belong to scientific and practical conferences and simulation trainings (36 % and 28 %, respectively). Regarding the choice of training mode, since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a change in the vector of training towards the online mode has been clearly observed (from 33 % to 78 % – online). Surveys of medical personnel and patients confirm the positive impact of BPR on the quality of medical care. In particular, medical workers note an increase in the level of professional competencies, a decrease in emotional stress, and career growth. Patients speak favorably about the comprehensive approach to providing medical care regardless of the profile of the department. The administration of the health care institution focuses on increasing the efficiency of the functioning of the medical institution as a whole, by reducing the number of bed days spent in a hospital and increasing funding from the National Health Insurance Fund based on maintaining an electronic system.
