IMPLEMENTATION OF THE «FLIPPED CLASSROOM» TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING PHYSIOLOGY TO MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

The “flipped classroom” technology is a modern approach to organizing the educational process, which involves shifting the main portion of theoretical learning to studentsʼ out-of-class time, while in-class sessions are focused on active knowledge acquisition and practical activities. This method transforms the traditional approach to learning and fosters the development of essential competencies such as critical thinking, the ability to analyze information, and solve practical tasks. The article explores the implementation of this approach in medical education, specifically in the teaching of physiology at the Department of Physiology of the Bogomolets National Medical University.A key aspect of the technology is studentsʼ independent preparation, which includes studying theoretical material, completing tests, and solving situational tasks before the lessons. This approach enables instructors to use class time for active engagement with students: discussing complex topics, solving practical problems, and developing clinical thinking. It enhances the effectiveness of the learning process and allows students not only to understand the material but also to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. An important component of this method is the use of digital tools, which aid in the visualization and deeper understanding of educational content. Digital technologies allow students to study at a convenient time, providing feedback and opportunities for error correction.For successful implementation of the flipped classroom model, it is also necessary to ensure appropriate teacher training.Educators must possess skills in working with digital platforms, creating adapted learning materials, and organizing active learning. The implementation of this approach significantly improves studentsʼ academic performance and promotes the development of their professional competencies, which are essential for future clinical practice.
